The Skyline GT-R - affectionately known as Godzilla for its giant-slaying abilities - gave genuine supercar performance to the masses. From ruling Group A touring car races in the 90's to the silver screen in cult movies such as the Fast and Furious franchise, the Skyline needs little introduction. Out of the three versions of the Skyline the R34 was particularly special; for this was the last 'true' Skyline to officially wear the GT-R badge, its successor the R35 being known only as the GT-R.
Due to Nissan deciding not to offer the car to the American market pricing for original examples have risen greatly as the R34 reaches its 25th birthday marking its availability to be imported.
Eager owners were technically able to import one under 25 years old, however the strict ruling around this made it extremely difficult to import and with strong guidelines over where and when you could drive. This particular example has now passed its 25th birthday so is not governed by those rulings and - unlike most - has not been modified.
The R34's power came from the now-famous RB26DETT 2.6-litre twin-turbo straight-six. Its third iteration presented a host of upgrades over its predecessor including ceramic turbos running ball-race bearings that helped increase torque to 289lb-ft. Due to the famous 'Gentleman's Agreement' Japanese car manufacturers of the time the BHP was officially capped at 276bhp however it is understood the car actually produced north of 300bhp.
And thanks to the car's original design in motorsport vast amounts of power were only a few tweaks away. An exhaust change and ECU remap can raise power to around 350bhp and if one chooses the engine can reportedly produce up to three times that. Thanks in part due to this huge tuning potential finding an unmolested example is becoming increasingly difficult. Supercar Group are delighted to offer this car – a 1999 R34 GT-R V-SPEC – in original and unmodified condition.
The V.SPEC it is an upgraded version of the base GT-R and features an upgraded ATTESA E-TS Pro (the four-wheel drive system) alongside an Active rear LSD, as opposed to mechanical found in a base model. The V.SPEC also benefits from a firmer suspension setup, a new front splitter and large carbon fibre rear diffuser.
Supplied new on 1st of March 1999 in its home country of Japan, this R34 V.SPEC was specified in stunning Black Pearl (GV1) paint, and optioned with rear wiper, privacy glass, rear fog light, glove box light and multi-function display with additional gauges and Nav/TV/stereo.
Having lived its first 9 years on home soil the car was subsequently imported into the UK on 4th of April 2008, benefitted from an immediate engine oil and filter change (carried out on the 22nd Of April) and stored until its first MOT and UK registration in late 2009. Following very limited use on UK roads the car was moved into private storage.
Purchased by its current owner in September 2013 it spent the next 7 years in the owner's personal indoor storage. Upon moving to a new home the owner moved the R34 to a nearby specialist car storage facility.
As a result, this R34 GT-R has only covered approximately 1,500km in the past 16 years.
The owner has informed us that the car experienced a malfunctioning erratic speedometer/rev counter, therefore, was replaced with an identical used NISMO unit. The replacement unit showed 31,388km less than the original and currently reads a total of 88,927km, meaning the car has officially covered a total of 120,288km / 74,744 miles.
In November 2020, the car was subject to detailed recommissioning work which included:
The car was then fitted with the correct Bridgestone Potenza 245/40R18 tyres in February 2021 which are still as new.
The original Nissan jack and tools are all still present in the boot along with the original unused space saver spare wheel. Inside, the R34 still retains it’s original JDM stereo and comes with its Japanese wallet and instruction manual.
The R34 is subject to two improvements; the exhaust was retrofitted with a Apekursera (A'PEXI) stainless rear exhaust system, JASMA rated for 'Street Regulation' - a common upgrade by dealers at the time - and a set of wheel spacers. The only criticism made of the R34's looks was the wheel offset, with the standard car finding its wheels tucked inside of the arches. A common upgrade, wheel spacers solve this and make the GT-R look how many believe it should have looked like from the factory. These two changes are easily reversable if one requires and it has become extremely rare to find an R34 GTR still in such original specification.
This Skyline R34 GT-R is now eligible for USA import and would make a fantastic potential investment opportunity, as well as a stunning stablemate to any car collection.
