2002 BMW Alpina B10 V8 S

Price - £40,995

Year - 2002

Mileage - 65,380 miles

The Alpina B10 proved to be one of Alpina’s most successful modern models, with over 1,300 examples produced throughout its lifecycle. However, as the E39 era drew to a close, competition in the super-saloon segment intensified, and the standard B10’s 347 bhp delivered by Alpina’s bespoke 4.6-litre V8, was no longer quite enough to sit at the very top of the class.

For the final year of production, Alpina responded in emphatic fashion. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the B10 V8 S represented the ultimate evolution of the model, with Alpina quite literally pulling out all the stops. The “S” designation was a deliberate nod to Alpina’s historic line of high-performance specials — including icons such as the E12 B7 S Turbo.

While not quite as scarce as some of its legendary predecessors, the B10 V8 S was built in extremely limited numbers and today stands as one of the most desirable and collectible Alpinas of the modern era.

While over 1,300 examples of the Alpina B10 were produced, only 150 examples of the B10 V8 S were built worldwide, with just 49 right-hand drive cars. In the UK, it is believed that only 42 were ever sold, and the number remaining today is thought to be significantly lower. This is unquestionably a true collector’s car.

But the V8 S isn’t simply a B10 with a larger engine — Alpina went to extraordinary lengths to make this model genuinely special.

The standard B10 was already an impressive machine, featuring a custom forged engine block, Mahle pistons, Alpina-specific camshafts, and reworked cylinder heads. The B10 V8 S, however, underwent a complete engine redesign. Displacement was increased to 4,837 cc, with a long-stroke crankshaft, new V8 S-specific forged pistons, revised connecting rods, an updated oil system, further cylinder head modifications, and a fully recalibrated ECU.

These changes increased power to 375 bhp and torque to a M5-beating 510 Nm. Alpina’s figures, while conservative, still reflect impressive performance: 0–62 mph in 5.4 seconds, 0–100 mph in 12.7 seconds, and a top speed of 177 mph.

Performance enhancements extend beyond the engine. The stunning 19-inch Alpina wheels — complete with hidden tyre valves — are standard on the S, paired with stiffer suspension for superior high-speed composure. While the standard B10 relied on BMW-sourced brakes, the S elevates braking performance with 360 mm drilled front discs and Brembo four-piston calipers, finished in Alpina Blue with the Alpina logo.

Exterior touches are subtle but purposeful: a new rear boot spoiler improves high-speed stability and downforce, completing the S’s combination of performance, handling, and refinement.

This particular example is one of the most authentic Alpina B10 V8 S models available today, with UK examples extremely rare and highly sought after.

It has covered just 65,000 miles since new and has been carefully maintained by only two owners, ensuring exceptional condition and provenance.

The specification is outstanding, featuring special-order Night Blue paint paired with a full Beige Nappa leather interior, accented with matching Night Blue piping and an Anthracite headlining. The cabin is equipped with dual-zone climate control, an electric rear sunblind, voice control system, cordless phone, a six-disc CD changer, and a HiFi speaker system.

Additional features include front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, and the BMW Media system with satellite navigation.

Having had the pleasure of driving this car, it performs impeccably — powerful yet refined, effortlessly comfortable, and supremely classy. This is a true Alpina in every sense of the word.
