The Renaultsport Clio 182 Trophy needs little introduction. Created as the ultimate development of the second-generation Clio Renaultsport, just 500 examples were produced for the UK market, all finished in Capsicum Red and individually numbered.

Based upon the already excellent 182 Cup, the Trophy gained motorsport-derived Sachs remote-reservoir front dampers, revised springs and geometry, lightweight 16-inch Speedline Turini wheels, lowered Recaro Trendline seats and the distinctive Clio V6-style rear spoiler. The result is now widely regarded as one of the greatest hot hatchbacks ever produced.

This particular example is Trophy No. 157 of 500, showing 74,800 miles and retaining its original Recaro seats, Speedline Turini wheels and all-important Sachs dampers.

Book A Viewing

The current owner, who is the car’s seventh registered keeper, acquired it in 2020. A mature enthusiast with a number of cars, he has kept the Trophy professionally stored with Supercar Group and used it sparingly. This is demonstrated by the mileage: the Clio has covered only 7,916 miles since its December 2020 service and just 7,215 miles since the Sachs dampers were refurbished in September 2021. All of the substantial work completed subsequently—including the K-Tec cambelt, camshafts and remap—has therefore covered even fewer miles. Rather than being an untouched collector’s car, No. 157 has been tastefully developed into a particularly well-sorted fast-road Trophy, with substantial specialist investment throughout the present ownership.

Specialist maintenance and upgrades

In December 2020, shortly after the present owner acquired the car, it was serviced by SG Motorsport at 66,884 miles. In September 2021, at 67,585 miles, the Sachs front dampers were removed and sent to respected Sachs specialists BG Motorsport. They were fully refurbished and modified so that the rebound adjustment could be accessed and altered. Together with associated work, the invoice totalled £1,416.

The car has covered only 7,215 miles since this work was completed. In November 2021, a Pure Motorsport suspension top-mount kit and front strut brace were fitted alongside further work totalling £574.

The most significant engine work was completed by K-Tec Racing in November 2022. This included:

  • Cambelt replacement
  • Auxiliary-belt kit
  • Water pump
  • Dephaser pulley
  • Coolant change
  • Cat Cams 2438 fast-road camshafts
  • Bespoke ECU remap

This work totalled £2,266, with the finished car recording 192bhp and 159lb ft of torque on K-Tec’s rolling road. As this work was completed after the damper refurbishment at 67,585 miles, it has covered considerably fewer than 7,215 miles.

Further work during the present ownership includes:

  • June 2023 – new rear discs and pads plus air-conditioning service, £573
  • August 2024 – new handbrake cables and air-conditioning service, £405
  • March 2025 – major service using Fuchs Titan Pro Race oil, new air-conditioning condenser and additional work, £1,793

With the exception of the K-Tec engine work and specialist damper refurbishment, maintenance since 2020 has principally been entrusted to Scott Glander at SG Motorsport, well known for his Renaultsport and Clio V6 expertise.

In total, the invoices from September 2021 onward amount to more than £7,000, all within the last 7,215 miles.

Earlier history

The car is accompanied by partial service history, including Renault main-dealer records and a substantial collection of later specialist invoices. Documented earlier maintenance includes:

  • August 2006 – Arnold Clark Renault service at 10,849 miles
  • May 2007 – Renault dealer-system record showing a service at 21,469 miles
  • October 2010 – Arnold Clark Renault service at 40,037 miles
  • October 2011 – Arnold Clark Renault service at 41,896 miles
  • February 2013 – replacement belts by Evans Halshaw at 43,561 miles

Fast-road specification

In addition to the Cat Cams and bespoke remap, No. 157 benefits from:

  • Scorpion sports exhaust, producing a pleasing tone without being excessively loud
  • BG Motorsport-refurbished Sachs dampers with accessible rebound adjustment
  • Pure Motorsport suspension top mounts and front strut brace
  • Wheel stud-and-nut conversion
  • Carbon-fibre front splitter
  • Aftermarket head unit

The original Recaro Trendline seats and anthracite Speedline Turini wheels remain fitted. The wheels are wearing premium-brand tyres with ample tread remaining. The car has no known mechanical faults or illuminated warning lights. It starts, runs and drives extremely well, feeling every bit the properly sorted fast-road Trophy that its specification and maintenance history suggest.

Condition

Overall, No. 157 presents well for its age and mileage. It is an honest, used 20-year-old performance car rather than a concours example and consequently has several small marks and minor dings consistent with normal use.

Areas of note include some lacquer peel on the driver’s-side corner of the rear bumper, fading to the exterior door handles—a familiar issue on Capsicum Red Trophys—and a cigarette burn in the driver’s Recaro seat. The remainder of the interior is in good used condition and presents well.

The car will be supplied with a fresh, advisory-free MOT.

With very few Clio 182 Trophys currently available, No. 157 represents a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine example that has benefited from long-term enthusiast ownership, professional storage, substantial specialist expenditure and carefully selected fast-road improvements.

The vehicle is being offered by Supercar Group on behalf of its owner. Viewings are strictly by appointment in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. Prospective purchasers are welcome to inspect the vehicle fully or arrange an independent inspection before purchase.
